Online Music Sharing

The tunes are out there.
Floating around in the Internet, all just a mouse click away, are hundreds and hundreds of songs, the songs that you love, the soundtrack of your life, that favorite ditty, the melody you first heard as a kid and have loved ever since, the album that you grew up on. It is all so very available smack dab in the middle of cyber space. No need for a trip to the neighborhood music shop.
See, there is no question that the advent of the World Wide Web has changed the way we all live; it has brought us into a brand new age. But no change wrought by the Internet has had wider impact than the complete transformation of the music world. We have really come quite long wat since the days of LP albums and, ugh, eight-track tapes. The way we all listen to music has changed, and it is continuing to change along with the explosion in social networking on the Internet. Do you want to ride the wave of that change? You can, simply by plugging in to the latest trend in online music.

What’s the name of that trend? It’s called music sharing. Remember sharing? That one thing they kept stressing back in kindergarten? The only difference nowadays is that sharing is not about letting some other kid have a turn with the Speak-n-Spell; now it refers to the very coolest thing to do with your tunes. And the nice part is – everybody else is sharing their music too!
See, just imagine all the songs you love – and not just those old stand-bys, not merely the songs you know by heart and could pretty much sing in your sleep, but also all the songs you love but don’t own, or that catchy modern tune you caught on the radio, that haunting melody you recognize but can’t quite place. You can find it all on the Internet, where the people who want to share those tunes with you want you to share your music with them.
It’s a music revolution – and it’s oh-so-simple!

Different Ways of Learning Piano for Beginners

There is a bit of a mini-revolution going on in the world of piano teachers. And it all has to do with teaching piano for beginners. You see, there's the old way of teaching piano. This way focuses on learning notes, learning to site read music, and learning where each individual note is on the piano. This method also focuses on practicing scales day in and day out. This classic method is what a lot of people think of when they think of piano for beginners. But it's not the only way to learn. Many piano teachers have begun teaching in a new way that is exciting and enjoyable to their students. The students of these teachers learn to play music faster and have a better time doing it.What is the name of this miracle method? While it doesn't have a formal name, people refer to it as "learning chords." Piano for beginners is taught with an emphasis on learning chords, rather than individual notes. This method is so popular because it makes learning piano exciting. After just a few short lessons, students can play real music. This is much more thrilling for students than practicing scales. After all, most people want to learn piano to play songs, not scales.Chords are a natural lead into music making. It's the way people learn to play guitar, and it's the reason that guitar players often enjoy their lessons more. When a beginning piano student learns chords, they can easily play a song within the first few lessons. This is satisfying for the student and the teacher alike.Piano for beginners can be exciting and fun when the right method is used!

Professional Online Guitar Lessons

So, you want to be a Rock Star, huh?…what about a classic guitarist, or country guitarist, or maybe even a blues or jazz guitarist? Or, maybe you simply want to improve your skills of your favorite pastime…playing the guitar. Well, as you know or are probably discovering, one-on-one, in-person guitar lessons can be expensive, ranging anywhere from $25/hour to over $40/hour, and there is no guarantee that you will learn how to play the guitar or improve your current skills. Over time, learning the guitar using this traditional method of instruction can cost you thousands of dollars per year (Even at the low end of the price range, $25/hour for 2-hours/week for 50-weeks in a year – 2 weeks left out for vacation – your total cost for one year of lessons would be $2,500; even if you did only 1-hour/week, the cost would still be expensive at $1,250 for the year…and, again, that’s using the low-end of the price range). But, you ask, what’s the alternative? How can I learn to play the guitar if I don’t get professional instruction? My answer is simple: “digital” or “online” guitar lessons provided by a professional guitarist with extensive teaching experience. So, what are “digital” or “online” guitar lessons? Simply put, they are the equivalent of one-on-one guitar lessons that are presented by an experienced guitar instructor and come in the pre-packaged form of a CD, DVD, video file, audio file, and/or web-access. With online guitar lessons, or lessons provided through some other form of digital media, you can learn from an experienced guitarist how to select, buy, string, tune and, of course, play the guitar in the privacy of your own home at your own pace. Why would someone choose their guitar instruction to come in the form of a disk or web-site instead of in-person? Simple:- INEXPENSIVEMost quality “digital” guitar-training programs are offered at about $25-$50 while some may cost upwards of $200, depending on the type of instruction being provided. However, compared to traditional in-person instruction as calculated previously, these programs, provided by experienced guitarists, would save you thousands per year.- MONEY-BACK GUARANTEEHave you ever heard of a guitar instructor offering a money-back guarantee? Most, if not all, of these programs do!- EXPERIENCED INSTRUCTION WHENEVER, WHEREVER AND FOR HOWEVER LONG YOU WISHNo more wasting time and money commuting or trying to schedule your life around your instructor’s schedule. Now you can practice with a professional whenever, wherever and for however long you wish. You could get professional guitar instruction at 2am if you wanted.- FREE REPEAT INSTRUCTIONNo more wasting money because you can’t seem to grasp a skill and you have to continue to ask your instructor during multiple lessons to spend time showing you how it is to be performed. With these "digital" or "online" guitar programs, you can get experienced instruction on whatever skill you need as many times as you need it...and it doesn't cost you any more money!- FREE ONGOING SUPPORTMost, if not all of these courses, offer continued online support for FREE after you purchase their program. What guitar instructor who offers in-person lessons would give you their phone number or even their email address so that you could ask them questions anytime you needed some support? The disadvantages of using digital or “online guitar lessons” are:- NONEWith a cost typically less than 1% of a year’s worth of in-person guitar instruction, a money-back guarantee, experienced, professional instruction anytime, anywhere and for however long, no commuting, and ongoing support for FREE, there really are no disadvantages. So, before you go looking for a “place of instruction” for learning how to play the guitar or improve your current abilities, you might want to review some of the “online instruction” being offered in the comfort of your own home at your own pace. These programs could very well get you playing like an experienced guitarist in no time while saving you a small fortune, literally thousands of dollars, each year. If you are interested in reviewing some of these educational programs, simply click on the appropriate link supplied in the resource box provided below.I wish you an exciting and fulfilling experience in learning how to play the guitar or play the guitar better with online guitar lessons,Regards,Greg SmithFounderThe Database of Knowledge: The Source for Enhancing People’s Lives

Learn How to Easily Read Guitar Tabs

With all those technical quarter notes and treble clefs, who really has time to learn guitar chords and riffs without spending days, weeks or even months taking private music lessons? Music notation is intimidating, but there is a simple solution to the problem – guitar tablature. Known as tab to professional musicians, it is almost like a diagram that shows guitarists exactly where to place their fingers. Tab presents amateurs and professionals alike with an easy way to learn new guitar chords or even a complete song. Let’s break down the basics.Where to begin with guitar tabsThink of it this way - if you can read a map, then you can also learn guitar chords from tab. Tab consists of six horizontal lines, representing the strings of the guitar (similar to a guitar chord chart, only sideways). The low E string is represented by the bottom line, and the other strings follow in succession the highest E. Players simply follow symbols on the lines indicating what string should be pushed, and in what location (fret). For example, if the number one appears on the top line, it indicates that a finger should be placed on the highest guitar string, in the first fret. When multiple numbers appear simultaneously, it indicates that certain strings should be pushed at the same time, in the fret indicated by the numbers provided.Taking guitar tabs to the next musical levelMost tab will indicate the chord symbol above the lines and fret numbers, so that more advanced players can read along with what they already know. Advanced tab notation may consist of complex instructions from the author. For example, sometimes a guitarist will slap their finger down forcefully on top of a string, creating a different sound. This technique, known as a hammer-on, is often indicated by appearance of the letter h in tab. Unfortunately, tab does not have a set of standardized rules, and there are many variations. There is also little direction for rhythm and timing, but it will work well for musicians who have a good ear, and a preexisting idea about how something is supposed to sound before they play it. It is best to start by picking out a well known, simple folk melody that is easily identifiable, and then move on to more complex patterns including chords and riffs.Guitar tabs for every musicianTab is not only an excellent way to learn new guitar chords; it is also used to notate scales, riffs, or entire songs. Guitarists who wish to try their hand with classical pieces, but do not read standard notation can experience the joy of tackling and mastering challenging pieces. Many publishers create albums of classical pieces which include standard notation, chords, and tab. Every genre is available in tab on the Internet or for purchase in a music store. One of the greatest aspects of tab is that once you learn how to read it, the notation can be applied to many stringed instruments like the mandolin or bass. The possibilities for a blossoming musician are endless with this simple system. From chord charts to power ballads and sonatas, tab will expand your repertoire to include an unlimited number of pieces.

A look into the history of royalty free music

The notion of royalty free music is likely to appear as an exceedingly puzzling one for the less knowledgeable yet potential user of the advantages that come along with the decision to bring such music into play. In fact, a series of false impressions concerning the term have their justification. The designation royalty free music leads to the assumption that such music could never take in a royalty disbursement suitable for any type of use. Consequently, it has happened for people to guess that it does not involve any sort of costs at all. On the contrary, when you opt for royalty free music (one and the same with the notion of buyout music), you do opt for using certain musical pieces royalty free, but within a particular set of conditions. Without a doubt, you will have to pay a one-time fee to acquire it. For a case in point, your music license may make it possible for you to use your buyout music on all radio broadcasts with no royalties outstanding, but it does require initial acquisition royalties or royalties for any other types of broadcast (such as TV broadcast). On the other hand, one has to study closely license agreements with their buyout music library to stay in full awareness of the conditions and payments necessary for the broadcast of such music. Let us revisit the few years prior to the birth of this notion. Prior to buyout music, libraries largely required the payment of a so-called Needle-Drop fee, of term-limit blanket licenses and of single production blanket licenses. Needle drop, back in the former vinyl days, stood for the necessity of the producer to pay a small fee each time he chose to use the music, which took place by means of the placing of the needle on the record (the name of the charge practice had a very clear connection with the concrete use of the music). This implied that, if you made use of the music in a commercial, you had to give the needle drop fee. After that, if you opted once again for using the music in another announcement, you had to pay the needle drop fee once more. Term-limit blanket licenses made available for the producer a precise amount of music to use in permissible productions for an established time interval, on average one year. A production blanket license made it possible for the producer to bring into play as much music as necessary for any production. These days, you will still find in operation such methods of music licensing. After a while throughout which such type of licensing held the monopoly, some music library producers had the initiative to implement the term of royalty free music, with the objective of rendering their libraries more attention-grabbing to producers. With royalty free music libraries in force, producers discovered a manner of obtaining a blanket right to make use of the music exclusive of supplementary expenses for a particular use. Alternatively, they found it possible to obtain a set of CDs and make use of them with no limitations at all. In other words, we are now talking about a type of licensing opposite to the needle-drop fashion. The final point is that no matter how complimentary royalty free music may sound, you still need to pay a fee. Of course, the advantage is that you pay it once and… that is that. On the other hand, you should examine thoroughly the license agreement with your buyout music library, to stay on the safe side to what concerns your rights of broadcasting the royalty free musical pieces that you acquire.

Waterloo Records: An Austin Original

Since 1982, Waterloo Records has been providing Austin with music for all tastes. Winning “Best Record Store” in the Austin Chronicle Reader’s Poll since its inception explains why Waterloo Records still stands when many other record stores have fallen. John Kunz partnered with Louis Karp to open Waterloo, and five years later he became the sole owner. Waterloo Records was originally located at 221 South Lamar, and sold vinyl records exclusively. After outgrowing the 1200 square-foot store, Waterloo moved 2/3 of a mile north to its current location at 600 N. Lamar. Though they have expanded into CD and DVD sales, they still pride themselves on having a large selection of both new and used vinyl. The Waterloo staff, made up of primarily local musicians, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the expansive library, and if a record or CD is not readily available, it will be ordered on the spot. Waterloo has listening booths and stations where any item in the store, on any format, can be listened to- not just those artists who have paid top dollar to be preloaded into the listening station. Waterloo does away with genre categories, and mixes all acts together alphabetically so customers don’t have to figure out whether their favorite group is listed under Rap, Rock or Punk. Not satisfied with a purchase? Waterloo takes back all music bought from the store within ten days, even if the customer decided they didn’t like the record after all.Waterloo Records is known nationwide as an iconic independent record store, much like Amoeba Music in California, or Vintage Vinyl in Missouri. Tourists don’t just stop in for the great music available, but also for live in-store performances by national and local acts. Nirvana played a live performance at Waterloo the day their Nevermind record was released. Not only can one purchase tickets to live shows from Waterloo, but it’s also the only venue from which to purchase a wristband to the South By Southwest music festival held in Austin every March, causing nationwide frenzy for out-of-towners to make a friend in Austin quickly before the coveted passes are sold out. Since Waterloo Records is in the hub of the “Live Music Capitol of the World,” John Kunz has kept his promise to local musicians by carrying any and all local acts that have a release to grace the shelves. Most would assume that a record store in Texas would carry predominantly Texas artists and would pander to traditionally popular genres in Texas, such as country-western, blues, and rock. But Waterloo has always been known for an exceptionally wide variety of mainstream and independent artists of every possible musical persuasion. From electronic dance music to Stevie Ray Vaughn's box set, Waterloo has it all (or they'll order it). 25 years after Waterloo Records opened for business, the store’s slogan, “Where The Music Still Matters” actually means what it says.

Jazz Music: Discover the Incoherence within!

William Shakespeare has well said “ He who hath no music in him is fit for treasons and spoils.” This statement looks so true and it very right in its own sense. In the early modernist era, a genre of music known as the Jazz music went on to become pretty popular and it is popular still. The Jazz music is marked by the incoherence of words and music. There is no sense of music and it looks more like a cacophony. However, Jazz music gained momentum and it became one of the most popular style of music in those days. And the rest is history. Jazz music, till date is one of the most popular style of singing and you would find a lot of patrons of Jazz music. Let us acquaint ourselves with the history of the Jazz music .The early 20th century was marked by sorrow, dilemma and depression. With the death of queen Victoria in 1901, the Edwardian Era began which was a gloomy phase in the history. Then the second half of 20th century witnessed an immense sense of isolation and alienation with modernism and the World War I. Thomas Stern Eliot refers to the coherence of the Jazz music in so much incoherent world. The time, when everything seem to go wrong and nothing was in place, Jazz music became the soul of music and reflected the cacophony of the times. Again, World War II sabotaged the values and ethics of humanity and the human suffering was beyond endurance. Then the great economic depression lead to sadness and material loss. Then the advent of post modernism, the Jazz music had become so much in sync with the times that it became the voice of the deserted humanity and hapless individuals. You can find some of the best Jazz music CDs on World Wide Web and find some of the famous music of your choice. From Robert Wyatt to Amy Winehouse, Jonie Mitchell to James Morrison, find out more about the music and its relevance! When you need your choicest jazz music CD, consider Internet as your best option!

Beginning Guitar to Transform Your Little Tunes Into Beautiful Songs

Before you can actually play the guitar properly though, you will need to have beginning guitar lessons as well as a guitar! On the face of it, as an instrument the guitar doesn’t seem to have much to recommend it to someone who’s looking to buy this instrument. However, all this can change from the very first moment you begin your first guitar lessons. Beginning guitar players should not become discouraged even before they take their first lessons. These lessons are ones where you will have the opportunity of learning the theoretical aspect of guitar playing as well as being able to pluck at the strings to produce a pleasant sound. You will be able to find instructors who can give you beginning guitar lessons from your local community and also from your local newspapers. These are not the only ways that you can learn about beginning guitar lessons. There are numerous books and audio tapes and CDs which will also provide this facility to you.As with all of these beginning guitar books, CDs and lessons, the main fact that needs to be understood is that you should feel comfortable and confident of your ability to learn and play the guitar. Without this confidence you will not be able to understand the various instructions that you are given in your guitar lesson. For this reason if you are learning to play the guitar from an instructor you should be able to ask the instructor for advice and help if you feel that you are missing out on some point of the lesson. Since you can’t ask books or audio or DVD lessons for help you should be able to look or listen to the various steps and see where you fingers should be placed on the guitar and what chord each guitar string signifies. Also once you are comfortable holding the guitar and you have learned to identify the various chords in your beginning guitar lessons, you can then proceed to learn how to combine these basic chords together to produce a little song or a tune. As your beginning guitar lessons progress, you will gain the chance of trying out different styles of music. These different styles are well recognized sounds like that of jazz, rap, blues, rock ’n’ roll and many others. With so many interesting facets of guitar playing to try out it is not that surprising that people love listening to the sound of a guitar. Having beginning guitar lessons is one of the best ways you can learn to play guitar and transform your little tunes into beautiful songs.

New England Patriots Football Team

Already the Vegas odd makers have put the New England Patriots at a top of the list as Super Bowl favorites. Hoping to not end up just short as they did in '06, the Patriots have spent a lot of money in the off-season to ensure a great '07 season. The Patriots loaded up on their offense to give Tom Brady a few more weapons to get the team scoring points. The Patriots will be one of the teams to watch in 2007 and by looking at their difficult schedule, it promises to be very entertaining. When anything less than a Super Bowl ring will be considered a disappointment, what will the Patriots do?With wunderkind Tom Brady, who is as good as it gets in the quarter back position, he can become very dangerous with a few more weapons in his arsenal. The main need for the Patriots in 2007 was wide receiver. Dante Stallworth from the Eagles and Kelley Washington from the Bengals were added as well as Wes Welker from Miami and Randy Moss from the Raiders. The questions is, how well will they mesh with Brady? Moss is already believed to be the receiver and understandably so as he did very well in Minnesota. Moss puts tremendous amount of pressure on opposing defenses. He is explosive down field with excellent leaping ability. Stallworth will bring with him a vertical presence which the team has Adaliusbeen lacking. Dante Stallworth also brings his speed while coming off a good year in Philly. Both receivers should be able to open up the middle part of the field for tight end Ben Watson. And Wes Welker is at his best in the slot and will be a dangerous player in the passing game, while Washington brings incredible running skills. And lets not forget who the Partiots still have on the roster - Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson, and Jabar Gaffney which gives the Patriots one of the deepest receiving teams in the NFL. And, as always, we have Tom Brady. He is undeniably in the prime of his career and one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, hands down. With Corey Dillon gone, this may be Laurence Maroney time to shine, even considering that he has never been a featured back. However, Dillon leaves a large hole to fill. He led the Patriots in rushing and was great in the red zone and goal line. He was a huge part of the success New England had last year. Maroneys skills are still in question mainly because of his previous shoulder injury. Maroney had only 175 carries last year but racked up 745 yards on the ground. When in top form, Maroney has the running skills and ability to be an amazing player. He is able to place tremendous pressure on opposing defenses and will hopefully put up some great numbers in 2007. And let us not forget Kevin Faulk who is an terrific 3rd down back who caught 43 passes last year. And one cannot forget the talented defense team the Patriots have. With Richard Seymor, Ty Warren, and one of the best nose tackles in the NFL Vince Wilfork, the Patriots have proven their commanding defense works. One of the more exciting New England additions this year is Thomas, who has shown that he can pretty much play anywhere. The Patriots also have three great, intelligent linebackers in Tedy Bruschi, Rosevelt Colvin, and Mike Vrabel. This group will prove to be a formidable group for any opposition. One weakness, however, may be that they aren't very deep at the corner. And one cannot forget the age and injuries that plague the safeties. That being said, however, most of the Patriots weakness is in the secondary. With talent and expectations so high, one can rest assured that the Patriots will provide a very exciting 2007 season.

2007 NFL Betting: Analyzing The NFC South

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (10-6 SU, 10-6 ATS): Sean Payton did the impossible in New Orleans last season, turning a moribund 3-13 team into a Super Bowl contender. With the return of QB Drew Brees, twin RB threats Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush, and emerging WR star Marques Colston, the offense is lethal. The defense also showed improvement under first year coordinator Gary Gibbs but lacked aggression, finishing 31st in the NFL in takeaways in 2006. The line, led by Charles Grant and Will Smith, is solid but the Saints need more big-play potential at linebacker and in the secondary. Still, an offense as potent as New Orleans’ will win a lot of games.By the Numbers (Regular Season, 1998-2006)SU: 64-80ATS: 69-72-3HF: 14-24-1HD: 10-16-2AF: 9-6AD: 32-25Sportsbook Buster: The Saints are 8-2 ATS their last 10 games versus the 49ers, who they play in San Francisco, Oct. 28.NFL Betting Angle: New Orleans has been a miserable bet at home, compiling just a 24-40-3 record ATS the last nine seasons.CAROLINA PANTHERS (8-8 SU, 5-9-2 ATS): Injuries ravaged the Panthers and the team that made it to the Super Bowl a year earlier couldn’t even make to a winning record in 2006. The offense struggled last year with inconsistent play from QB Jake Delhomme and a ground game that finished 24th in the NFL, prompting Head Coach John Fox to fire offensive coordinator Dan Henning and replace him with Jeff Davidson. The Carolina defense was as good as the offense was bad last year with DE Julius Peppers leading the way. The Panthers also have a quality secondary and hope that No. 1 draft choice Jon Beason (Miami) will be the playmaker they need at linebacker.By the Numbers (Regular Season, 1998-2006)SU: 64-80ATS: 71-66-7HF: 20-27-1HD: 13-9-2AF: 8-12-1AD: 27-19-3Sportsbook Buster: The Panthers are 6-0 ATS versus the Saints, their last half-dozen meetings.NFL Betting Angle: Carolina is 3-12 ATS as a favorite of between four and seven points. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (4-12 SU, 6-9-1 ATS): While the Saints were going from worst to first, the Buccaneers were heading in the opposite direction, from first to worst last year. Head Coach Jon Gruden hopes that savvy QB Jeff Garcia, who the Buccaneers acquired through free agency, will be able to run his complex West Coast offense with more precision than Chris Simms or Bruce Gradkowski did in 2006. Tampa Bay has gotten old on defense, falling from the top 10 in the league for the first time in a decade last season while ranking 31st in sacks with just 25.By the Numbers (Regular Season, 1998-2006)SU: 77-67ATS: 69-69-6HF: 30-26-2HD: 9-2-1AF: 15-18AD: 15-21-2Sportsbook Buster: The Buccaneers are 5-1 ATS versus the Rams, who they play at home, Sept. 23.NFL Betting Angle: Tampa Bay was 3-1 ATS last year and is 9-2-1 ATS the last nine seasons in the role of a home underdog.ATLANTA FALCONS (7-9 SU, 8-8 ATS): The Falcons didn’t figure to be a playoff contender with QB Mike Vick so their fortunes are even dimmer now that Vick is likely to miss the season defending himself against a federal indictment for dog-fighting sand gambling. Affording Super Bowl Tickets Isn't Difficult

The launch of this years NFL season has been the most celebrated one in several years. For the first time in a long time, there is a determination that has permeated the sport of professional football and this feeling is certainly welcomed. Of course the determination, to which I am referring, is the all out quest for the title of Super Bowl Champions. I know some will take issue with this declaration. They will say that the quest for the ring has always been there and while they may be correct, it has been some time since such a large number of contenders for the crown existed. Thats what makes this particular season exciting. I wont mention specific teams as not to upset others that share a different view. But one has to admire the shear number of potential outcomes that could happen. OK, I cant help it. I have to mention a few teams. Sure, the Colts could repeat, the Patriots could take it, the Chargers, the Bears, Ravens, Saints, Seahawks or several others could win the Super Bowl and there would not be a stunned crowd at the game. The field is wide open. When have you ever seen this?Lets face it, this years football fans are able to speculate all they wish but the field truly is wide open. Unlike those years where you knew who would win the Super Bowl after two games into the season, it behooves everyone to hold back their bragging until the games of this season are played. There are sleeper teams that could shock the NFL world and there are seasoned teams that seem poised to make a run for it. This makes for a very interesting race for the title.Either way it goes down, this season should be a chorus of ooooooos and aaaaaaaahs. I predict that the Super Bowl Tickets for 2008 will be the most valued and most sought after ticket in a long time. Even more so than they have been in the past. To those fortunate enough to get them, these tickets will not disappoint. Most sports fans wont get a 2008 Super Bowl ticket due to supply and demand issues. The prices for the limited number of available tickets are just too far outside of the range most sports fans can pay. So, many fans will be relegated to watching the game on TV as usual. Some fans however, are preparing to get their tickets by working toward that end now. Many fans are turning to the Cheap Tickets Toolbar at CheapTicketsToolbar dot com. The Cheap Tickets Toolbar allows the user to earn money for Super Bowl tickets by pointing out errors on websites. The toolbar interfaces with TypoBounty.com Where the internets errors are worth two dollars each. Each error that the person finds such as misspelled words and poor punctuation can provide the necessary Super Bowl funds. The money they earned can be used for their Super Bowl tickets, flights, hotel room etc. So, fans are starting now, in an effort to be ready for the 2008 Super Bowl. The 2008 Super Bowl will be the event of the century and the ring is the most sought after in a long time. The teams that want it are powerful reminders of the fact that, in the NFL, big money contracts may distract for a time but the driving force behind this game is the desire to be the best and having the ring to prove it.

College Football Betting, NFL Betting Or Both?

Size Matters: There are more than 120 college teams on the college football betting board while the NFL has just 32 teams. So, by pure mathematics alone, it’s about four times as difficult to keep up with college football as it is with the NFL. Those large college numbers offer the bettor both risk and opportunity. For football bettors with the time, exploring the college football betting options may be the more rewarding choice. After all, in their rush to post wagering pointspreads, even the most experienced oddsmakers can’t get every line correct every week and occasionally misfire on a few games. That’s far more likely to happen at the collegiate level where, as the old adage goes, “bookmakers have to be right every time; bettors just once” gains added credence.Getting to the Point(spread): You may live the rest of your life and not see Rice beat Texas in a college football game but no such stark mismatches exist in the NFL. In fact, even the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts lost outright to Houston, Jacksonville and Tennessee last season, three teams that failed to make the playoffs. The largest pointspread differential in the NFL last year was 18, when the Colts welcomed the Titans to Indianapolis, Oct. 8. For the record, Indy prevailed, 14-13, but failed to cover. The first 16 games of the 2007 NFL season opened with no team favored by more than seven points and a whopping nine contests where the line was a field goal or less.Contrast that with the opening weekend of this year’s college season when no fewer than 16 games closed with pointspreads greater than 18, including two games above 30 and another pair of contests with lines of 40 points or more. The larger numbers in the college football betting game also create greater volatility. For example, while top ranked USC opened as a 42 1/2-point favorite over Idaho, Sept. 1, gamblers pounded the Trojans, driving the line up to -49, a 6 1/2-point swing that you’ll never see happen in the NFL. USC failed to cover, winning, 38-10.Also on Sept. 1, Michigan State was bet up from -17 to -23 against Alabama-Birmingham. The Spartans covered easily, 55-18.This disparity in pointspreads creates a bit of a betting dilemma for bettors. The more conservative player may be better off concentrating on NFL betting, where no team is ever in a “can’t win” situation and the bettor isn’t apt to feel like a fool because a line has shifted significantly from the time it was posted to the time the player bet it.The bettor with a more adventuresome streak may opt for college football betting where he could have, conceivably, laid 42 1/2 with USC and taken 49 with Idaho. He would have collected on both bets if the Trojans has won by 43-48 points. It didn’t work out this time but these highly desirable “middles,” where the shop-wise bettor gets both ends of a moving line, are available more often in the college game than its NFL counterpart. The Known Versus the Unknown: With teams required to list injuries and the probability of players participating in each week’s game, there are fewer surprises in NFL betting. College teams, however, are under no obligation to post injuries and/or suspensions, adding another level of uncertainty to the NCAA wagering experience.I Second That Emotion: Although division contests can stir the juices, for the most part, professional football players operate on an even emotional keel. Even NFL coaches’ halftime speeches tend to be more about Xs and Os than motivation. But the college game, where impressionable teenagers dominate, is more influenced by emotion, witness a motivated Appalachian State, which scored an astonishing upset of overconfident Michigan, Sept. 1. That’s just another factor that makes college football betting more difficult and more risky, but potentially more rewarding than the NFL.When it comes to football betting, a player has to find his comfort zone.
